I love walks in central park. My route is east harlem down to the 70’s and cpw where my son goes to school. The walk takes about 50minutes, exhausting, but beautiful.
I love fall walks at our local park. I usually go with a friend because our children are all months apart. It’s nice to get out and chat while the kids enjoy the fall colors!
The full moon was gorgeous! Sometimes it’s hard in the dinner/bedtime rush to remember that it’s OK to delay bedtime for 15 minutes or half an hour — if it means getting outside and getting a breath of fresh, chilly air to promote sound sleep!
Recently I took my son for a walk without my husband and dogs. It was fun for us to talk to each other and spend lots of time on the play equipment just being silly and not having to worry about what the dogs were getting into.
There’s a city pathway behind our house that goes through a draw with several ponds. There’s often a lot of neat plants and animals to see, and it’s nice to walk on a path that is off of the road.
It’s Fall in New England! A walk in the woods or even a walk along city sidewalks is fun with the crunchy and beautifully colored leaves on the ground and falling all around!
Ooh! Walks! My husband and I walk together every evening, using our large back deck as a “track” so that we can walk even when it is dark outside (or even when it is raining if we stay under the part with a roof!). The kids circle us riding their bicycles and we walk and talk about our day–perfect catch up/connection time coupled with exercise. It is a top priority for us and we usually walk for about 30 minutes 6 days a week.
One time we went for a walk through our neighborhood after dark, and our neighborhood is not very well-lit. I had our daughter on my back in an Ergo carrier, and she kept looking up at the stars and trees in the moonlight, as well as squealing and bouncing whenever a car came toward us. (We think she was excited by the headlights because she didn’t know what was behind them – they were just bright orbs in the darkness.) She had been out at night before, but in the stroller, and she wasn’t as engaged with our surroundings. Having her up on my back made a world of difference in her enjoyment of the walk, which also made it that much more enjoyable for my husband and me.
My 4 and 2 yr old like to walk along the curb balancing themselves as if on a balancing beam and pick up pretty leaves as they see them or find long sticks to take home.
Walking the trails of a state park that is nearby opened my eyes to the stamina of my 3-year-old. He walked about 1.5 miles on the trails, examining rocks, leaves and anything else that crossed his path. It was wonderful for both of us!
I love to walk around the lake at my dad’s house. He lives in a subdivision that is really hilly and I get a great workout!
