NYC’s AP Month Mayoral Proclamation

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has proclaimed October to be Attachment Parenting Month in NYC!

PROCLAMATION

Whereas:

Loving and supportive parenting has a profound positive impact on a child’s development, which in turn strengthens communities and helps build a brighter future for all New Yorkers.  Nurturing parenting methods create strong emotional bonds – also known as secure attachment – and help children develop trust that their emotional needs will be met.  Spending time with your children enhances their emotional growth and their sense of well-being and minimizes the risk factors that lead to problematic behavior.

Whereas:

It is important that all New Yorkers have access to the support and information they need to be the best parents that they can be, and we are grateful to have organizations such as Attachment Parenting International dedicated to this goal.  The practice of Attachment Parenting, grounded in decades of research and evidence, promotes healthy parent-child relationships and stronger families.

Whereas:

Attachment Parenting International works with parents, professionals and organizations around the world to educate people about how to raise secure, joyful and empathic children.  Its educational outreach, support groups, research, referral and speaker services promote Attachment Parenting concepts and practices.  I encourage all New Yorkers to join API to support parents in “Giving Our Children Presence.”

Now therefore, I, Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, do hereby proclaim October 2008 in the city of New York as:

“Attachment Parenting Month”
