API Essay Contest

We are no longer accepting submissions for the 2008 AP Month Essay Contest. To vote among the four finalists, please read: Vote for the AP Month Essay Contest Winner.

How do you give your child presence? Attachment Parenting International wants to know! Share your story about how your family practices Attachment Parenting through the AP Month Essay Contest.

E-mail entries to Attachment Parenting International (API) at essaycontest@attachmentparenting.org. Entries will be accepted until 10 p.m. Central Time on Friday, October 31.

Guidelines: Essays should be 500-1,000 words in length. Only one entry per person. The theme is “Giving Our Children Presence.” Preference will be given to firsthand experiences by parents practicing AP in their families. There is no fee to participate.

Include your name, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number at the top of the first page of the entry. Essays should be placed directly into the body of the e-mail message.

Eligible Participants: Essays may be entered by API members (including API Leaders and members of the API Professional Associates and API Professional Colleague programs), as well as non-members. Members of API’s Volunteer Staff cannot participate in this contest, although API Leaders who do not serve in another API staff position are welcome to participate.

Prizes: The top essays entered (up to 10) will be selected by a committee and then presented for public voting on the AP Month Central website. The favorite essays, determined by a poll, will be eligible for prizes including a paid one-year individual membership to API and a book by an AP expert author.

In addition, the favorite essays will be printed in a special feature in an upcoming 2009 issue of The Journal of API. Recognition to the writers of the favorite essays will also be given via the API website and through other API publications.

Contest Deadline: To participate in this fun contest, send your essay by 10 p.m. Central Time on Friday, October 31, to essaycontest@attachmentparenting.org. For more information, including where to send an entry via postal mail, e-mail essaycontest@attachmentparenting.org.

Note: By participating in the Essay Contest, you are agreeing to the following: The essay submitted by you is your personal, original work, and you hereby give API permission to freely use any or all of the essay on its website, in its publications, or in any of its materials with any resulting proceeds to fully benefit API as an organization.
