I teach playschool and today the preschoolers and I sat around the table taking turns with a small machine-to peel our apples. As we were eating them, I said…”Thank you Mother Earth for growing these apples…thank you Mother Earth for growing the trees.”
Later the children were playing. As they set the pretend table, I heard them saying “Thank you Mother Earth” to the PRETEND food!
At lunchtime, I said “Thank you Mother Earth for the sweet potato,” and the children delightfully echoed my thanks…”Thank you for the peanut butter, thank you for the eggs, thank you for my granola bar…thank you, thank you”. It was a sweet gratitude explosion!
As I modeled gratitude for the earth, the children happily joined in. If I show how to be grateful for what I have, for who I am, for all the blessings in my life…the children follow in my footsteps. Conscious presence is powerful medicine!
